Give your Images meaningful Names

For SEO Purposes you should give your Images meaningful Names (Alt Names)

It is always a good Idea to add some optimized Images to your Articles or Pages, but they should be named with meaningful names of what they represent.
For example if you upload an Image straight from your Camera or Whatsapp Android Phone they might be named such as:

Erzeugermarkt Konstablerwache Frankfurt
Erzeugermarkt Konstablerwache
IMG_20210401_120159385
or
WhatsApp Image 2020-10-26 at 08.09.50.
Those Names do not mean anything to any Search Engine such as Google
Google or Bing or any other Search Engine would rather read the Alt Tag or Name of the Image and know what it represents.

Google refers to the filename as well as the alt text, so it’s important that it makes sense and contains readable information.

There are a few important guidelines for how to name images for SEO though:

  1. The filenames should contain dashes between words (not underscores)
  2. The words should be relevant to the photo
  3. Filenames should be as short as possible and not overly lengthy
  4. Do not keyword stuff filenames
  5. Keep filenames unique by using numericals after the names, e.g. view-from-the-balcony-1, view-from-the-balcony-2.

Include target keywords at the beginning and separate them with hyphens. Don’t use underscores because search engines don’t recognize them and won’t be able to “see” the words individually.
It’s fine for your filenames to be similar on the page, but I’d recommend making them as unique and relevant as possible.

You may also want to improve the targeting of your ideal client by including descriptive words that mention construction and house type.

Please do this sparingly. It’s a delicate balance between being helpful and coming across as spammy, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and ask yourself: Will this be useful to a potential customer?
